Aidiladha Strengthens Ties, Spirit Of Sincerity Among Malaysians In Jakarta

By Nik Nurfaqih Nik Wil

JAKARTA, May 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysians in Jakarta celebrated Aidiladha at the Embassy of Malaysia in a lively yet modest atmosphere, which helped ease their longing for family and their hometowns.

More than 250 Malaysians, comprising embassy officials and staff with their families, students, and the Malaysian community residing here, gathered as early as 7 am to perform the Aidiladha sunnah prayer and subsequently carry out the ritual of sacrifice (ibadah korban) together in a spirit of mutual cooperation.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta, Farzamie Sarkawi, said that this year's Aidiladha celebration was held modestly, with an emphasis on the ritual of sacrifice and the spirit of sincerity.

The celebration was held in line with the theme highlighted by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), which is “Sacrifice with Sincerity".

“A total of four cows and 16 goats were sacrificed this year, involving the participation of 27 Malaysians consisting of the Malaysian community in Indonesia and the staff of the Malaysian Embassy.

“The sacrificial meat will be distributed to the participants of the ritual, and if there is any surplus, it will be channelled to orphanages and the asnaf group (those in need of financial assistance) around Jakarta,” he told Bernama on Wednesday.

He said the programme also served as an avenue for the Malaysian Embassy to reach out to Malaysians in Indonesia, especially those working and studying around Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
