Spain Expresses Readiness to Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iraq

Baghdad / NINA / -Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares affirmed his country’s readiness to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Iraq, during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on the sidelines of the 23rd Doha Forum in Qatar.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the two ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in a manner that serves the shared interests of both countries and expands cooperation across various sectors.

Albares expressed Spain’s willingness to establish a comprehensive framework for distinguished bilateral ties through a proposed strategic partnership agreement, underscoring Madrid’s desire to deepen cooperation with Baghdad.

For his part, Minister Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s appreciation for its relations with Spain and the European Union, praising NATO’s support and ongoing cooperation with the Spanish Ministry of Defense. He also reviewed recent developments in Iraq’s political process and the efforts being made toward forming an inclusive national government.

The two sides also discussed regional developments, particularly the situations in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the importance of promoting stability and supporting de-escalation efforts in the region./ End
