Northern Borders Region Combines Grazing Lands, Migratory Bird Routes and Desert Attractions

Arar, June 9, 2026, SPA -- Northern Borders Region stands out as one of the Kingdom’s richest regions in environmental and natural features, combining vast pastures, transcontinental migratory bird routes, and an environment suited to observing celestial bodies, making it a model of natural diversity in northern Saudi Arabia.
The region covers more than 127,000 square kilometers and is one of the Kingdom’s most prominent grazing environments. Its plains, valleys, and natural meadows have provided an important resource for grazing and raising livestock, helping shape lifestyles tied to camels, sheep, and seasonal movement in search of pasture.
Vegetation plays an important role in sustaining biodiversity by providing suitable habitats for wildlife, birds, and insects, as well as helping stabilize soil and reduce the impact of climatic conditions on open lands.
The region is also a major stop for migratory birds along global migration routes between Asia and Africa. Each year, it hosts large numbers of birds during the spring and autumn seasons, with the birds using its plains and natural pastures for rest and feeding.
The region also has natural sites that attract visitors during the spring season, thanks to its diverse terrain, expansive spaces, and quiet environment, making it an ideal destination for desert trips, birdwatching, and photography enthusiasts.
