MIGHT, TUSAS Malaysia Strengthen Aerospace Talent Pipeline Through Sky Global Programme
PUTRAJAYA, July 24 (Bernama) -- Twenty Malaysian students have been selected to undergo intensive aerospace industry training in Ankara, Turkiye, under the SKY Global Internship Programme 2026.
The programme is a collaboration initiative between Turkish Aerospace (TUSAS), the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and the Consortium of Malaysian Universities (CMU).
MIGHT said the programme, which is now in its fourth year, provides Malaysian students with practical exposure to aerospace engineering and industry practices, including avionics, electronic design, programming, aircraft structural design and aircraft systems installation.
It said a total of 56 Malaysian students have benefitted from the programme since its inception, with the 2026 cohort comprising 20 students selected from nine local universities.
"The programme reflects the continued collaboration involving MIGHT, TUSAS Malaysia, TUSAS Akademi and CMU in developing the next generation of Malaysia's aerospace talent," it said in a statement on Friday.
The students received their offer letters during a ceremony at the MIGHT Partnership Hub in Cyberjaya yesterday, attended by Higher Education Minister Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to Malaysia Dr Nevzat Uyanık, representatives from participating universities and aerospace industry partners.
Zambry, in his speech, said the initiative goes beyond talent development by strengthening bilateral ties between Malaysia and Turkiye through deeper institutional and people-to-people connections.
He said the collaboration also creates new opportunities in higher education, research, technology, and knowledge transfer that reflect the mutual trust and shared commitment of both countries to developing future-ready talent and a lasting, mutually beneficial partnership.
Meanwhile, MIGHT joint chairman (Industry) Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said the programme represented an important investment in Malaysia’s future aerospace capabilities.
"The development of world-class aerospace talent is fundamental to strengthening Malaysia’s position as a competitive regional aerospace hub, and this programme will help build the skilled, globally exposed workforce required to support the industry’s long-term growth," he said.
Meanwhile, TUSAS Malaysia chief executive officer Mohd Shahiman Sulaiman said the company's collaboration with 10 university partners plays a key role in developing a sustainable talent pipeline for the country's expanding aerospace ecosystem.
He said the internship at TUSAS headquarters in Ankara demonstrates that Malaysian engineering graduates are capable of meeting global aerospace standards while allowing the company to identify promising future innovators.
"The programme offers students world-class technical exposure while enabling the company and the wider industry to benefit from their fresh perspectives and capabilities," he said.
According to the statement, the programme has also delivered positive career outcomes, with three alumni currently employed by TUSAS in Turkiye under a two-year placement programme.
"Their achievement reflects the ability of Malaysian engineering talent to meet international aerospace standards and thrive in a global working environment," it said.
The statement also said that beyond student training, the programme strengthens Malaysia-Turkiye cooperation in aerospace, expands professional networks between Malaysian universities and Turkiye’s aerospace industry, and creates opportunities for future collaboration in research, technology development and knowledge transfer.
"The initiative supports Malaysia’s efforts to develop a highly skilled and internationally competitive aerospace workforce, while strengthening the country’s position within the regional and global aerospace ecosystem," it added.
