Military Miracles in Fatherland Liberation War
Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- During the Fatherland Liberation War, the Korean People's Army carried out three rounds of the powerful striking operations on the whole front from May to July 1953 according to the operational plan of President Kim Il Sung. They were a military offensive that enabled to hasten the final victory in the war.
In 1953 when their "New Offensive" ended in total failure, the U.S. imperialists had no option but to resume the armistice talks in April of that year. However, the talks were hindered by their unreasonable and unilateral assertions.
Meanwhile, the enemy deployed large numbers of troops on the front and launched indiscriminate bombings on the rear area of the DPRK.
To cope with the prevailing situation, the President advanced a policy on offensive operations aimed to deal a powerful military blow to the enemy on the whole front.
According to the operational policy, the KPA units carried out the first round of the striking operations from May 13 to 26, the second round from May 27 to June 15 and the third round from July 13 to 27.
They hit 21 targets 30 times to kill more than 4 000 enemy soldiers and occupy several heights in the first round and targeted 56 places over 70 times and thus killed and took captive more than 42 000 enemy soldiers, destroyed and captured a large number of combat and technical equipment and took control of 33 heights covering 55 square kilometers in the second round.
In the third round, too, they seized the areas covering 160 square kilometers including heights of strategic significance, killed and took captive more than 78 000 enemies and destroyed and captured many combat and technical equipment.
Their successful combat actions including an attack on 351 Height, a battle on 811.7 height and a battle on 339 height dealt a heavy blow to the U.S. imperialists resorting to double-dealing tactics behind the curtain of the armistice talks.
Clark, who dreamed of the honorable ceasefire, cried in panic that the merciless strike of the Korean People's Army was a moment of receiving a heavy blow from behind.
The U.S. imperialists were driven in a tight corner, forced to sign the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953 and our army and people won a brilliant victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. -0-
