HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad receives Shahid Afridi, emphasises continued development of cricket in Bahrain

Manama, Feb. 14 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, received former international cricketer Shahid Afridi.

Present were His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Environment, Deputy Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club High Committee, and Member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports; and Ayman bin Tawfiq Al Moayyed, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.

The meeting reviewed the progress of cricket in the Kingdom of Bahrain and discussed means to further develop the sport and enhance its international presence.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad emphasised continued efforts to attract international expertise and shape the future of cricket in Bahrain, noting that this approach supports talent development and promotes the sport.

His Highness commended Shahid Afridi’s role in motivating young people, noting that Bahrain is working to build an integrated sports environment that attracts expertise and strengthens international cooperation.

The meeting also reviewed cricket programmes in Bahrain and development plans for the sport, including opportunities for cooperation with international experts.

His Highness and Shahid Afridi visited the Victorious Cricket team, where Afridi was briefed on training programmes, stages of player development, and efforts to raise performance levels and build sustainable teams.

On his part, Shahid Afridi expressed appreciation for the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad in developing the sports sector in Bahrain, particularly cricket, and expressed keenness to support the sport’s development.
