PM: Iraq Bears Significant Security Responsibilities On Behalf Of The International Community

Baghdad / NINA /- Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq bears significant security responsibilities on behalf of the international community, stressing the importance of maintaining stability amid ongoing regional and global challenges.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Al-Sudani received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Iraq, Serge Dickschen, on Sunday. The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Iraq and Belgium, as well as avenues for enhancing cooperation with Belgium and the broader European Union across various sectors.

Al-Sudani highlighted that Iraq is experiencing a state of security and stability, calling on Belgian companies to invest in Iraq and contribute to the country’s reconstruction and development efforts.

The discussions also covered regional and international developments. The Prime Minister emphasized Iraq’s call for dialogue between Iran and the United States, reiterating that Iraq assumes substantial security responsibilities to ensure continued stability at the international level.

The meeting further addressed the issue of detainees affiliated with ISIS. Al-Sudani stressed that Iraq bears a heavy responsibility in detaining and prosecuting members of the organization in accordance with international standards, urging countries to repatriate their nationals and bring them to justice.

For his part, the Belgian ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister on the success of the parliamentary elections, describing Iraq as a pivotal state playing a major role in the region and an important partner for the European Union, and expressing Belgian companies’ interest in expanding their presence and investments in Iraq./ End
