Malaysia Secures 20 Accolades At ASEAN Energy Awards 2026

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia secured 20 accolades, including eight wins, at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2026 in Manila, the Philippines, surpassing last year's performance.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said Malaysia also secured seven first-runner-up and five second-runner-up positions.

"This achievement surpasses Malaysia's performance last year, which saw the country securing 16 accolades, including six wins.

"This improvement reflects the growing capabilities and excellence of local organisations in implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives," it said.

PETRA said the recognition was achieved through the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards and the ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards, involving various projects in energy-efficient and green buildings, biogas, solar and micro-hydro.

Also receiving recognition were projects based on new and innovative technologies such as green hydrogen, waste-to-energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

PETRA noted that the respective organisations first received recognition at the national level through the National Energy Awards 2026 (NEA) before representing Malaysia at the AEA 2026.

"The NEA is a national platform that recognises the excellence of organisations in implementing sustainable energy initiatives, while also identifying high-performing organisations with the potential to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN level," it added.

According to PETRA, the regional achievement demonstrates the capability of local industries, businesses and institutions in realising the nation's energy transition aspirations through practical and innovative energy solutions.

"This success also reflects the outcome of strategic collaboration among the government, industry and strategic partners in strengthening the national energy ecosystem," it said.

The AEA was held in conjunction with the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF).

Malaysia's performance at the AEA 2026 also supports the aspirations of the National Energy Policy 2022–2040 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) to develop a secure, sustainable and inclusive energy system, while strengthening the country's long-term economic competitiveness.

"PETRA once again extends its highest congratulations to all recipients for their outstanding achievements and success in bringing honour to Malaysia at the AEA 2026.

"This achievement reflects the progress of the national energy sector and Malaysia's commitment to driving secure, resilient and sustainable energy development for the well-being of the nation and the ASEAN region," the statement concluded.
