PM Anwar Condemns Riyadh Airport Attack, Expresses Solidarity With Saudi Arabia
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which killed innocent people and injured hundreds.
In a Facebook post, Anwar extended his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“There can be no justification for attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure. To put innocent lives at risk can only deepen the suffering already wrought by this conflict and carry it into places that should remain beyond its reach,” he said.
Anwar said Malaysia stood in solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its people amid the conflict, while expressing hope that diplomatic efforts would prevent further escalation.
“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people at this perilous hour. We remain steadfast in our hope that diplomacy and reason will prevail before the conflict widens still further,” he said.
In a statement on Sunday, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said 12 people were killed and 309 injured in Saturday’s attack on the King Khalid International Airport.
Those killed comprised four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.
