JOM MAKAN RESTAURANT TO OPEN FIVE MORE OUTLETS IN LONDON

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Jom Makan Restaurant which uses the
Malaysia Kitchen concept is looking foward to opening another five outlets in
the United Kingdom by 2012.

This follows the success of its first flagship restaurant at Pall Mall and
the opening of its second outlet in Westfield Shopping Centre, both in London.

Jom Makan (United Kingdom) managing director Mohd Zuhri Abdullah said they
were also exploring opportunities to take the concept to the United States.

He said the restaurant served a variety of Malaysian food such as satay
(skewered meat), nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk), beef rendang (beef
cooke in coconut milk), fried kue tiaw (a type of noodle), fried rice, beriyani
rice (spiced rice), gado-gado (vegetables served with peanut sauce), hailam mee
(noodle), fried mee (noodle), curry mee (noodle) and prawn sambal tumis (prawn
cooked with chilli paste).

"Promoting the concept, 'Now everyone can eat Malaysian food, everybody
can cook Malaysian food', Jom Makan has created an enormous impact in London
catering to 3,500 customers per week, of which 85 per cent are British locals,
he said in a statement here Wednesday.

He said Jom Makan also imparted greater awareness about Malaysia by
providing attractive table mats that tell more about Malaysia's key attractions
such as the wayang kulit (shadow play), wau bulan (kite), durians (fruit with
thorny skin) and the Petronas twin towers.

Mohd Zuhri said, Westfield's 3,100 sq ft Jom Makan outlet which was
opened recently, replicates the first flagship outlet with an open kitchen and
casual dining experience, emphasising on fast and fresh food, and complying with
the highest standards for cleanliness, health and hygiene.

He said this outlet projected a turnover of RM1.2 million (US$359,852)in its
inaugural year of operations, adding that it was an honour that it was chosen
for the launch of the Malaysian Kitchen Campaign 2010 in London last Monday.

He lauded the government's effort in pushing the Malaysian culinary
brand experience in an aggresive manner that would encourage restaurant
entrepreneurs to go big in the overseas food and beverage market.

"With Malaysian Government support, we are positive we can succeed in the
major cities of the world, taking the Malaysian dining brand experience to great
heights," he said.
