Koksaray water distribution reservoir to be commissioned soon
Shymkent, January 15, 2010 (Khabar) - Key facilities of Koksaray water distribution reservoir to be commissioned before Feb 1.
The construction of the main facilities of the Koksaray distribution reservoir are to be completed before February 1. This corresponding statement was made by Emergency Situations Minister, Vladimir Bozhko in Southern Kazakhstan. Almost every winter, the South Kazakhstan region is threatened with floods. This year, the first phase of the Koksaray distribution reservoir is to be completed ahead of the possible floods.
Tokhtarbek Baimoldayev, chief, KazSeleZaschita, Ministry for Emergency Situations of RK:
- The main facilities are completed and the Syrdarya River is under control now. All canals are ready and the foundation bed of the dam is completed as well. Now, we are fortifying the structure with concrete.
The Koksaray distribution reservoir is a sophisticated mechanism. It was designed to serve as a temporary reservoir for excessive water appearing during winter and spring floods. Through one of the canals, the water is to be accumulated in a reservoir. In summer, it will be discharged back into the river.

- The construction rate is extremely high here. To be honest, I was a bit nervous when the President set us such a complicated task. As you can see, thanks to builders and qualified staff, we have already completed such a task. No doubts that we will be able to collect one cubic kilometre of flood water.
The construction of the Koksaray distribution reservoir is expected to be fully completed before the end of this year. This winter already, the reservoir will receive 3 cubic kilometres of water.
