PRESIDENT EXPECTED TO CLOSELY SEE MILITARY EXERCISE AT SANGATTA

Sangatta, East Kalimantan, June 15 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during his working visit to East Kalimantan Province was scheduled to have a close look at a joint exercise of the Indonesian Military at Sangatta, on Sunday.

The Head of State, to be accompanied by Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief Djoko Santoso, would follow the joint military exercise from warship KRI Soeharto-990.

On Sunday afternoon, President Yudhoyono would see a combat exercise involving 340 Indonesian warships, six helicopters, and five jet fighters.

He would also look at an air combat exercise involving F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-5E Tiger, Shukhoi Su-27SK and SU-30MK, as well as Hawk 109/209.

The Indonesian Military (TNI)'s joint exercise which was started from June 8, 2008, is being participated in by 30,570 personnel from the Air, Army and Naval forces.

The joint exercise, under a code of "Yudha Siaga" (Combat Alert), is to be carried out in four strategic areas, namely in Natuna, Batam (Riau islands), Singkawang (West Kalimantan), and Sanggatta (East Kalimantan).

The exercise is also to use 120 bombs and 266 rockets.

The Air Force is expected to mobilize 23 warplanes, 25 cargo planes, 16 helicopters and 8 VIP planes, Rear Marshal Yushan Sayuti, chief of the Air Tasks Command of the joint military exercise, said recently. TNI held its last joint military exercise in 1996.
