DONATE BLOOD AT AIRPORTS
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The public can now donate blood at airports,
as Malaysia Airports collaborates with the National Blood Centre to open blood
donation counters at 19 airports under their management over two days.
In a statement here Friday, Malaysia Airports said the move, which was part
of their effort to promote a caring society and the importance of saving lives,
was to overcome shortage of blood supply.
Malaysia Airports' General Manager of Corporate Communications Nik Anis Nik
Zakaria said the company would like to join the National Blood Centre's noble
cause in saving lives by donating blood.
"Therefore, through our airports, we are providing the platform for our own
staff, agencies operating at the airports, and also the public to help increase
blood supply for people in need, apart from exercising our corporate
responsibility.
"While we expect at least 50 people to donate at each airport, we would be
very happy if the number surpasses 50 as it is for a good cause - helping to
save lives by putting more blood on the shelves," she said.
The campaign would be led by the flagship airport, the Kuala Lumpur
International Airport (KLIA), which would kick off the campaign on Jan 19,
followed by other airports on Jan 20.
To encourage participation, donors would receive souvenirs from Malaysia
Airports, and they will also be entitled for lucky draws where a total of 300
prizes will be given away at all participating airports.
Other participating airports include Kota Kinabalu International Airport;
Kuching International Airport; Skypark Subang Terminal; Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
Airport, Subang; Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh; Penang International Airport;
Langkawi International Airport; and Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Alor Star.
