Tehran calls for collective action against terrorism

TRIPOLI, Libya, Jan. 15 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has said regional collective measures are needed to combat terrorism and promoting security.


“A collective effort” is needed on the part of Islamic and Arab nations to establish a durable security and rob the opportunity from outside regional powers to deploy forces in the region under the pretext of fighting terrorism, Mottaki told Libyan Foreign Minister Musa Kusa in Tripoli on Thursday.


He also called for a just world system and a restructure of the UN Security Council.


Kusa, for his part, called Iran a supporter of the regional Arab nations and said Tehran’s revolutionary approaches can be followed by Tripoli.


He also said Libya deems it necessary that the Security Council change its structure and criticized the world body for adopting a double standard approach toward Iran for its peaceful nuclear program.


Libya’s chief diplomat said while the Zionist regime of Israel possesses nuclear weapons it is supported by the major powers.


Such double standards should be ended, he asserted.


Elsewhere in his remarks, he said Iran and Libya should take major steps to expand their bilateral ties.


New era of ties with Africa


A new chapter of economic ties have been opened between Iran and key African countries including Libya, Mottaki noted.


Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tripoli, he described relations with the Arab and African countries as highly important.


The Iranian foreign minister stated that Tehran and Tripoli share similar views on many regional and international issues and expanding comprehensive ties with this North African country constitutes an important part of Tehran’s foreign
