AZERBAIJAN OBSERVES MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR JANUARY 20 MARTYRS
Baku, January 20 (AzerTAc). A state-wide moment of silence to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Black January was observed today at 12:00 (local time) across Azerbaijan.
Cars, ships and trains sounded sirens throughout the country to remember victims of the January 20, 1990 tragedy when the Soviet army invaded Baku killing and injuring hundreds of innocent people.
In accordance with a relevant plan of action, commemorative events have been arranged in all cities and towns of the country.
Hundreds of thousands of Baku residents as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps have been visiting the Alley of Martyrs since early hours on Wednesday to pay tribute to Azerbaijan`s valiant sons and daughters.
