TEN MALAYSIAN HOTELS AWARDED ASEAN "GREEN HOTEL" RECOGNITION

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Ten Malaysian hotels received the
Asean Green Hotel Award at a ceremony during the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) 2010
here today, out of the total 155 hotel recipients this year.

Five of the hotels received the award for the first time while the other
five were recipients of 2008 who still complied with the Asean Green Hotel
Standard, and thus retained the awards.

The five newly-awarded hotels are The Andaman Langkawi (Kedah), Shangri-La's
Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah), Mines Wellness Hotel
(Selangor), Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort (Tuaran, Sabah) and Renaissance Kuala
Lumpur.

"The five hotels that retained their awards are Hotel Melia Kuala Lumpur,
Nexus Resort Karambunai (Sabah), Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Penang, Shangri-La's
Hotel Kuala Lumpur and The Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa," the Tourism
Ministry said in a statement released at the function.

The Asean Green Hotel Standard is one of six Asean Tourism standards. An
Asean Green Hotel is an environmentally friendly hotel which adopts energy
conservation measures, based on the 11 criteria and 25 requirements of the Asean
Green Hotel Standard.

The award is given annually to hotels and industry owners by the Tourism
Minister of the respective Asean country, usually in conjunction with the Asean
Tourism Forum. The award is valid for two years.
