KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman
will represent Malaysia at the International Conference on Afghanistan in London
Wednesday.
Anifah will be accompanied by officials from the ministry at the conference
which primarily seeks to mobilise support and resources of the international
community behind the plan for the future of Afghanistan, as outlined by
president Hamid Karzai, according to a Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) statement
here.
"The invitation of the British government for Malaysia's participation at
the conference represents a clear recognition of the international community
for its support and assistance over the years to the development of Afghanistan.
"Malaysia's participation at the conference provides a firm affirmation of
its continuing support and strong commitment to international initiatives to
help Afghanistan in achieving peace, stability and development," the
statement says.
Anifah will also meet several of his counterparts during the conference to
discuss issues of mutual interest.
Apart from 70 countries, including several members of the Organisation of
the Islamic Conference, invited to attend the meeting, British Prime Minister
Gordon Brown, Hamid and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon are also
