Standing DPM meets ASEAN Secretary General
VIENTIANE,FEB O1(KPL) Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister received yesterday at his office in Vientiane a courtesy visit of ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan.
Pitsuwan is on a one-day visit to Laos to attend the first meeting of Laos- ASEAN – JICA Co-operation Project.
At the reception, Mr. Pitsuwan briefed Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad on the objective of the project which is a new co-operation form in the framework of ASEAN with aimed to narrow gap on economic among Asean member countries. The project will start from 2010 to 2015. The main purpose of the project is to build the capacity for Laos to successfully build a better ASEAN Community by 2015.
On this occasion, Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad expressed thanks to ASEAN Secretariat and JICA for their selection Laos as the pilot project and hoped that it would be a model project for new other ASEAN member. Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad also briefed his guest on the 25th SEA Games hosting by Lao PDR which attended by five prime ministers of ASEAN and ASEAN Secretary General.
