QUEEN MARY 2 BRINGS 2,500 TOURISTS TO MALAYSIA
PORT KLANG (Malaysia), Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Queen Mary 2 (QM2), a luxury
cruise ship under Cunard Cruise Line anchored at Star Cruise Terminal at Pulau
Indah here, Friday brought 2,592 passengers to Malaysian shores.
The ship anchored at Pulau Indah about 8am, after making a maiden call
at Penang Feb 4.
Over 20 tour buses and about 30 taxis were seen lining up at the cruise
terminal at 9.45 this morning, to ferry passengers to their respective
destinations in the Klang Valley.
Due to the large number of passengers disembarking, the media which was
invited by Cunard's representative here, Pacific World Travel Sdn Bhd, to tour
the ship had to wait 45 minutes before they could enter the ship.
The ship's social hostess, Freda Singleton, gave a media tour of the ship.
She said QM2 was in the midst of a 101-day, round-trip journey from New
York, beginning Jan 4. It is scheduled to make maiden port calls at 19 ports
such as Cairo, Muscat, Durban, Cape Town, Mumbai, Phuket, Penang, Shanghai,
Nagasaki, Guam, Adelaide and Perth.
The media tour was shown facilities provided to guests. They included spa,
saloons, restaurants, wine, champagne and cigar lounge, pub, cinema and
planetarium, theatre, boutiques shops and casino.
QM2, which first began operations in 2004, is 345 metres long -- the length
of nearly four football fields -- and her 17 decks and tower are the same height
as that of a 23-story building or 60.96 metres from the waterline.
It is 41.15 metres in width and weighs 153,822 tonnes.
The QM2 left for Singapore at 6.30pm Friday.
