Laos, China to have joint border inspection

Vientiane ,Feb 09 Paksé, (KPL) - A meeting of the Laos-China Committee on Joint Border Inspection was held in Laos’s southernmost province of Champassak on February 3-8.
Both sides discussed planning and relevant regulations in preparation for implementing the joint border inspection of Laos and China. Both sides agreed that the inspection will be conducted in three different phases as the first one is in February, the second one falls between the end of 2010 and early 2011 and the last one is in 2012.
Activities in the first phase include aerial mapping, border line measuring, while those for the second phase are boundary marker installation and those of the third phase include the drafting of a sub-agreement on joint border inspection.
At the meeting, the Chinese side decided to provide technical assistance for conducting the aerial mapping and finance the production of border markers.
Both sides approved two documents on rules of the Laos-China Committee on Joint Border Inspection and regulation on the implementation of the First Laos-China Joint Border Inspection Unit.
In addition, both sides shared points of views on the shape and size of the Laos-China border
markers.
