WE WANT YOU TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MONGOLIA

SNUFF BOTTLE
The snuff bottle plays an important role in greetings; western Mongolians call it a skin bag (khokhuu). It is known how its design came about, but of course, there is a Mongolian legend to explain it.
This says that a blacksmith decided to create a way to store snuff, and fell to musing about the design. Noticing his son playing nearby, in the summer heat, it occurred to him that this little boy's boojgoo (sexual organ) seemed like a little bottle or bag; so he made a snuff bottle in the same shape, with a little cap.
After host and guests take their seats in the ger, they first move in proper social behavior is to offer snuff to one another. So each in turn passes his snuff bottle from hand to hand, the stopper slightly loosened as a polite invitation.
