Japanese businessmen to develop herbal medicine in Laos

VIENTIANE,FEB 15 (KPL) - The Lao government has approved a Japanese company Tsumura & Co of investing in herbal medicine development project in Lao Ngam district, Saravane province, with a 30-year concession.
The concession land for the US$6 million project covers 200 ha in Lao Ngam district.
An agreement on the project which includes herb plantation and the construction of herbal medicine factory was signed here on February 12 between Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Thongmy Phomvisay, and the Deputy Office Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Khamphanh Meuansitthidda, and Senior Managing Director of the Tsumura & Co Company, Mr. Kushima Masashi, and Mr. Iwazawa Tsuyoshi in charge of raw material division of the Tsumura & Co.
Japanese Ambassador to Laos Mr. Masaaki Miyashita and relevant officials of both sides witnessed the event.
Since 2005, both sides have conducted a feasibility study on the implementation of the investment project in Lao Ngam district.
