MONGOLIA TO RECEIVE GRAIN AID FROM RUSSIA
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/. It has been announced that Mongolia and Nicaragua will be added to the list of countries that will be eligible to receive grain from the Russian government's supplies in the form of aid.
The announcement was made by agriculture minister Yelena Skrynnik this week, although she declined from stating exact volumes or timeframes for the deliverance, Reuters reported.
The news provider added that the Russian state trader the United Grain Company (OGC) plans to offload some four million tonnes of grain from its 10 million tonne stocks this year. It has already confirmed that Cuba is set to receive 100,000 tonnes of this as humanitarian aid.
Mongolia was hit by particularly bad winter weather recently, with the United Nations declaring that one million cattle are thought to have perished in the snow, threatening the health and livelihoods of citizens in rural areas.
World Bank statistics show that 35 per cent of Mongolia's population relies upon cattle herding as a source of income.
