LPS DENIES SENDING LETTER DEPLORING CENTURY BAILOUT

Jakarta, Feb 20 (ANTARA) - The chief executive of the Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS), Firdaus Djaelani, denied that he had sent a letter to the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee deploring the bailout of the bank.

"The content of the letter is the same as the one we have ever conveyed to the BPK (State Audit Board) and the House Bank Century Committee as part of the explantation we made at a hearing with the committee. So Andi Rahmat's statement is not correct that our letter of response dated February 19, 2010 contains LPS's regret over the Bank Century bailout or that the bailout is below standards," he said in a short message to ANTARA here on Saturday.

He said he had indeed sent a letter to each party factions in the committee on February 19 containing our response towards the initial views of the factions on the bailout.

"Particularly with regard to LPS's role," he said.

Andi Rahmat earlier said to the media that the committee had received an official letter from the LPS telling that the Century Bank need not be bailed out but had better be closed.

Andi also said that according to the LPS the bailout was far below standards.

He said the LPS letter numbered 007/DK/II/2010 was dated 19 February 2010 and official, signed by LPS's chief Firdaus Jaelani, the chairman of the LPS' Board of Commissioners Rudjito and had an LPS stamp.***
