Ahmadinejad, DRC speaker discuss Iran-Congo ties

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad held a meeting with Congolese Parliament Speaker Evariste Boshab in Tehran on Monday to discuss efforts to strengthen ties between Iran and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Iran welcomes the expansion of relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ahmadinejad told the DRC parliament speaker.

He added that Iran and Congo should impede the hegemonistic powers’ efforts to impose their will on nations.

He also stated that the parliaments of the two countries should pave the way for expanding bilateral cooperation.

“Iran and Congo have the potential to become advanced and powerful countries in the world,” the Iranian president said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad stated that the major powers are making every effort to impede the advancement of independent countries and are using political and economic pressure to achieve their goal.

The Iranian president said the “expansion of cooperation among independent countries” is the only way to counter the efforts of the domineering powers.

And independent countries should prepare for major global developments, Ahmadinejad added.

Boshab said that the Democratic Republic of Congo is interested in expanding relations with Iran.

“Iran and Congo enjoy historical relations, and Iran has always had a positive view toward developments in Congo,” he added.
