of Military Glory'. February 23rd was declared a day off in 2002.
On Tuesday, the Russians will pay tribute to servicemen and their
families, veterans of the army and Navy and to soldiers and officers who

stability in the country.
On the eve of the holiday, Moscow youth organizations have trimmed and
groomed wartime burials and monuments in the Russian capital. Together
with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War they visited the former
battlefields in the Moscow region.
More than 160 festive events will be held in Moscow on the Defender of
the Fatherland Day. By tradition, Russian leaders and deputies of the
Federation Council will lay wreaths to the Grave of an Unknown Soldier
near the Kremlin Wall on Tuesday morning. Besides, Russian military
leaders, representatives of veteran and other public organizations will
lay wreaths at the monument to the wartime military leader, Georgy Zhukov,
and a monument to law enforcers who died performing their line of duty.
A separate festive program has been prepared for veterans and
servicemen who undergo treatment in Moscow hospitals.
Festive marches, shows, concerts and theatrical performances devoted
to the holiday will be held all across Russia from the taiga to the Baltic
Sea. The units and formations of the Russian Armed Forces will mark
February 23 with parades.
Thousands of artillery guns in Moscow, other Hero cities and
administrative centres will fire 30 salvos in memory of the dead defenders
and in honour of the living ones.
