BI DISAPPOINTED OVER PARTY FACTIONS' VIEWS

Jakarta, Feb 24 (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Budi Rochadi said he was disappointed by political party factions in the House committee investigating the Bank Century case that had named former BI officials.

"We have worked proportionately and with good will but then they had views like that. We are not too happy with the factions' views," he said at the finance ministry here on Wednesday.

He said not all data and information collected by the committee had been reviewed for their final statements.

"The process of the committee's investigation is long and we have discussed it and a lot of witnesses have also been summoned to give their testimonies but they are not accomodated," he said.

Right now, he said, BI's position is neutral and would not comment further if their findings should be legally processed such as through the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) or not.

BI's director of strategic planning and public relations Dyah NK Makhijani in a press statement on Wednesday deplored the investigation process of the House Committee which had been focussed on the policy aspect while failing to prove allegations that the Century Bank bailout funds had gone to political activities which was the initial purpose of the committee formation.

"BI understands the political party factions' final stance but regrets that most of the factions have ignored facts on the dimension of the crisis that have been used as the basis of the policy of BI and the government at the time," she said.

She said the disclosure of the allegations was even the key to proving if there was an ill will behind the decision to bailout the Century Bank by BI and the government at the time.***
