KPK NOT INFLUENCED BY PARTY FACTIONS` MENTIONING NAMES

Jakarta, Feb 24 (ANTARA) - A Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) official said the mentioning of a number of names in the conclusions of some party factions on the Bank Century case would not influence the commission's own investigation.

"Our focus is not on names or persons but on the case," KPK Deputy Chief Haryono said here on Wednesday when asked if the KPK had the same view as several political parties in the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee.

Several political parties in their final statements over the case on Tuesday night mentioned the names of persons considered responsible with regard to alleged crimes involved in the case.

Haryono said the KPK always worked on the basis of evidence and therefore it did not have a target of confirming or denying certain parties' views.

"We do not target directing the case to involve certain people," he said.

He said KPK however appreciated inputs from various parties to complete its data about the case.

He said KPK would also continue to collect information from various parties to clarify the case. He said KPK had an authority to determine who it would question.

"So long as their information is needed, we will question them," he said.

The Century Bank case first emerged to the public after the central bank extended a short-term funding facility (FPJP) to the bank to meet its request for a repurchase agreement in October 2008 worth Rp1 trillion due to a liquidity problem.

According to the State Audit Board (BPK) Bank Indonesia however had processed the Century Bank's repot asset request as a request for FPJP.

When the request was submitted the Century Bank's capital adquacy ratio was recorded at 2.35 percent while the Bank Indonesia regulation states a bank must have minimally eight percent CAR in order to be eligible for seeking funding.

On November 14, 2008, Bank Indonesia changed the regulation allowing a bank with just a positive CAR to apply for the funding. At the time the Century Bank's CAR was below eight percent.

Bank Indonesia however continued to disburse the FPJP in stages from November 14 to 18, 2008 reaching up to Rp689 billion.

In the same month the Century Bank also received funds from the Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) up to Rp6.7 trillion.

The LPS extended the fund after on November 20, 2008 Bank Indonesia in a board of governors' meeting declared the bank as a failed bank carrying a possible systemic effect.

The decision was later referred to the finance minister as chief of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) who in a meeting early on November 21, 2008, attended by finance minister Sri Mulyani, Raden Pardede as KSSK's secretary and Boediono now the vice president as KSSK member, confirmed the bank as a failed bank and approved the extension of bailout funds by the LPS.

According to BPK Bank Indonesia did not give the latest data about the Century Bank conditions so that the funds for its bailout swelled from initially Rp632 billion to Rp6.7 trillion.***
