PEACEKEEPERS AWARDED STATE PRIZE

Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ State prizes were awarded Thursday to servicemen of the 8th contingent of the UN peacekeeping operations which has served in Sierra-Leone, pursuant to an order of Ts.Elbegdorj, the State Head and Commander-in-Chief of Mongolia's Armed Forces.
Apart of the President, present at the ceremony were L.Bold MP, the Defense Minister; a Lieutenant-General Ts.Byambajav, a head of the General Headquarters of Mongolia's Armed Forces (GHMAF); a Brigadier-General B.Bayarmagnai, the GHMAF's Deputy Head; authorities of the Defense Ministry and the GHMAF; attache in charge of defense and air military at the Embassies in Ulaanbaatar.
The Red Flag Order of Military Merit is granted to one officer, the Medal for Peace--to 205 servicemen. In accordance with order of the Defense Minister, the Medal of Merit of Warrior bestowed upon eight servicemen and the Medal for Motherland--upon 36 peacekeepers.
The 8th contingent served for six months in Sierra-Leone to ensure security of "Sunny Langata" base and an international special court.
