GOLKAR TO REMAIN IN RULING COALITION : CHAIRMAN

Pekanbaru, Indonesia, Feb 26 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party Chairman Aburizal Bakrie said the party intended to remain within the coalition with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Democrat Party (PD).

"Golkar hopes to remain in the coalition," Aburizal said after installing the executive board of Golkar's Riau chapter here on Friday.

Aburizal who is popularly called Ical, refuted the opinion that Golkar had violated the coalition agreement by issuing a harsh statement at a Bank Century Inquiry Committee plenary recently.

Together with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Golkar in its final views on the Bank Century bailout case mentioned names of persons it considered responsible for the disbursement of the Bank Century bailout worth Rp6.7 trillion.

PKS and Golkar are among the political party partners in the Democratic Party (PD)-led ruling coalition.

"Our agreement in the coalition was to seek the truth," Ical said.

He said the critical stance voiced by Golkar in the House Bank Century Inquiry Committee was something Golkar had to do for the improvement of the government.

"We hope the government will become stronger after the Century case and the coalition will become more solid," he added.

In his address during the installation of the Golkar regional executives, Ical repeatedly said that Golkar would adopt a stern attitude and not cover up mistakes made by the government in the Bank Century case.

"We have to be bold in saying what is true and what is wrong," he added.***
