BENGKULU TO GET FOUR HYDRO POWER PLANTS

Bengkulu, Feb 28 (ANTARA) - The Bengkulu provincial government is planning to build four micro hydro power plants this year to deal with power shortages in the province.

"Two of the projects were originally planned to be built in 2009 but because of time constraint they will be built this year," Head of the Bengkulu Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Office Winarkus said on Sunday.

The power plants each of which would cost Rp800 million to Rp1 billion were assistance from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, he said.

Two of the power plants would be built in North Bengkulu and Seluma districts where power shortages were still common, he said.

The other one would be built in Kaur district in which many villagers lived without electricity, he said.
