WHIRLWINDS DAMAGE TENS OF HOUSES IN MADURA
Pamekasan, E Java, March 1 (ANTARA) - Whirlwinds damaged tens of houses in three villages of Pakong sub-district on Madura island, East Java, over the weekend.
The villages that were hit by the whirlwinds on Saturday and Sunday were Bandungan, Bicorong and Pakong, Pakong village administrator, Hakim, said here Monday.
The whirlwinds did not only damage 31 houses but also destroyed some restaurants and toppled a number of trees, he said.
Despite the absence of fatalities, the natural disaster had caused the villagers to suffer a material loss of Rp40 million (US$1 =Rp9,380), Hakim said.
Seven houses in the three villages were heavily damaged by the whirlwinds, he said.
