President leaves for Japan

VIENTIANE,MACH 01(KPL) - A high-ranking delegation of the Lao PDR led by President Choummaly Sayasone left here yesterday to pay a goodwill visit to Japan on 2-6 March.
According to a press release from the ministry of foreign affairs, the visit is in response to an invitation of the Japanese government on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Laos and Japan.
While in Japan, President Choummaly Sayasone will attend a gala reception hosted by Japanese Emperor Akihito and her Majesty the Queen at their palace in Tokyo. He will also meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.
This is the first official visit made by President Choummaly Sayasone to enhance the friendly relations and co-operation between Laos and Japan.
The President and his entourage were seen off in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace “Hor Kham” in presence of Vice-President Bounnhang Vorachit, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly and a number of senior officials concerned.
