PRESIDENT HOLDS UNSCHEDULED COORDINATION MEETING

0
Jakarta, March 2 (ANTARA)- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held an unscheduled coordination meeting with a number of ministers here Tuesday to discuss developments in a House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session earlier in the day.

The House plenary session was held to discuss the results of the Bank Century inquiry but it ended in chaos.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the coordination meeting started at 2 p.m. at the State Palace and was attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, and Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

The House plenary session suddenly turned into chaos after Speaker Marzuki Ali announced that the meeting would only discuss the results of the Bank Century inquiry committee's work but not take a decision on the matter.

A number of House members protested Marzuki's announcement and insisted that the session also formulate the House's final view on the issue.

But Marzuki stuck to his announcement, arguing that it had been agreed at a House consultative body (Bamus) meeting that the House plenary on the Bank Century inquiry results would last two days until Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

Each of the House factions then held an internal meeting to decide what they would do as a follow up to Tuesday's House plenary session.
