WANTIMPRES MEMBER DENIES DISCUSSING CERTAIN CASE WITH KPK
Jakarta, March 3 (ANTARA) - Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) member Jimly Asshiddiqie denied here Wednesday he had met with Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders to discuss a certain corruption case.
"We did not discuss any corruption case, past or present," Jimly told newsmen after the meeting with KPK leaders at the KPK building.
He said the meeting was just to discuss how the existing law enforcement system and mechanism could be made more effective.
According to Jimly, the meeting with KPK leaders was held because there was concern about the present conditions of law enforcement, especially in regard to corruption eradication efforts which were considered to be not optimal.
Therefore, he said Wantimpres would intensify various issues related to law enforcement and to discuss them internally.
"After that we will give it consideration," Jimly said, adding that the Wantimpres would not report it to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono while the internal discussions were still going on.
Jimly came to KPK office with another Wantimpres member, Siti Fadilah Supari, and was met by all KPK leaders.
Wantimpres had held similar meetings with other law enforcement institutions, and planned to do the same with the State Ministry for Administrative Reform.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono installed nine new members of the Wantimpres for the 2010-2014 period at the State Palace here on January 25, 2010.
The head of state signed the Presidential Decree No.13P/2010 on the installation of nine new members of Wantimpres on January 20, 2010.
Based on Law No.19/2006, the Presidential Advisory Council was formed to give advice on how to run the government.
The nine new members of Wantimpres installed by the president at the time were former State Minister for the Environment Emil Salim, former Indonesia Ulema Counci (MUI) chairman Ma'ruf Amin, former State Minister for Women's Empowerment Meutia Farida Hatta, former Regional Representatives Council (DPD) chairman Ginanjar Kartasasmita, former Constitutional Court chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie, former Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirayuda, former Home Affairs and Regional Autonomy Minister Ryaas Rasyid, former Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari, and former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS.
