86% of Vientiane province’s population are literate
VIENTIANE,MACH 03 (KPL) - Around 86% of people in Vientiane province are literate, said last week Head of the Education Service of Vientiane province, Mr. Thonekeo Phanthanavong.
Over the past five years, Vientiane province has seen an increase of only 3.75 per cent of primary school enrolment rate. Meanwhile the enrolment rate at kindergartens has increased by 18% and those at lower and upper secondary schools have grown by 19.92 per cent and 17.33 per cent, respectively.
Mr. Thonekeo said that the general education for ethnic groups has been extended to rural areas over the past five years.
The province has one ethnic school with 515 students.
Vientiane province has five private vocational schools, three English schools, one computer training centre, two model primary schools and two model secondary schools. There are 5,360 teachers across the province.
