ROBUSTA COFFEE EXPORTS OF INDONESIA'S LAMPUNG PROVINCE 10.216 MILLION DOLLARS
Bandarlampung, Mar 4 (ANTARA) - Lampung`s Robusta coffee bean exports in January 2010 dropped to 6,740,461 tons worth 10,216 million US dollars, compared to a month earlier.
"The exports dropped both in volume and value compared to December 2009`s exports," an official of the Association of Indonesian Coffee Exporters and Industries (AEKI), Lampung chapter, Muchtar Lutfie said here Thursday.
He said Lampung`s Robusta coffee exports in December 2009 reached 18,996,092 tons worth 26,629 million dollars.
He said the drop in the exports was caused by the fact that the coffee plantations in Lampung have yet started their harvests, while the market price of the commodity has reached Rp13,000-p13,500/kilogram, and the price of good quality coffee may reach Rp14,000/kg.
"It would not be until June 2010 that the coffee harvest season in Lampung started," Muchtar said.
Despite the drop, the growers and exporters continue their exports because they still have a lot of the coffee in store.
Lampung province is the biggest Robusta coffee producer in Indonesia with a production of 140,000 tons/year from 663,000 Ha.
