PRESIDENT: ERADICATING TERRORISM REMAINS GOVT'S LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENDA

Jakarta, March 5 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Friday terrorism prevention and eradication efforts would remain high on the agenda of the government's priorities in upholding law and security in the country.

"Our people want our country to be secure so they can carry out daily activities as traders, farmers and so forth. Therefore, we must ensure that they feel secure wherever they work and travel to in the country," the president said at a limited cabinet meeting on political, legal and security affairs at the presidential palace.

Likewise the business world and all economic activities also needed guarantee of domestic security, namely law enforcement, he said.

Yet preserving security situation and public order would always top the list of the government's priorities, he said.

"On the other hand, we all know that global terrorism threat is still there. Terrorism cells are still working at home and abroad. Yet the ranks and files of police, state intelligence board and military must make every effort to prevent terrorism acts according to the law," he said.

A joint team of Densus 88 and Aceh police members has arrested a number of people allegedly linked to terrorism in Jalin hills in the subdistrict of Jantho, Aceh Besar district, since their operations as of February 20.

The police have confiscated from them rifles, 24 rounds of ammunition and a grenade as well as military uniforms and attributes and a number of documents.

National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri told the press after the meeting police were still pursuing at least 30 people suspected of involvement in the terrorist network.
