TEN POLICEMEN INJURED IN ANTI-TERROR OPERATION IN ACEH

Aceh Besar, March 5 (ANTARA) - Ten Mobile Brigade members were wounded in skirmishes with suspected terrorists in the Lamkabue region of Aceh Besar district on Thursday (Mar 4) in an operation to pursue and encircle them since Tuesday (Mar 2).

The target of the operation was a 20-strong group believed to have escaped from a police raid on their training camp in a forest in the mountainous Jalin region in Aceh Besar district about a week ago.

The 10 wounded Mobile Brigade policemen were rushed to Zainal Abidin General Hospital in Banda Aceh for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, police personnel based in Lamkabue village were on Friday seen being reinforced with fresh troops that arrived in at least four personnel carriers. They consisted of Mobile Brigade and anti-terror Special Detachment (Densus) 88 officers in uniform as well as plain clothes.

According to a local police source, a total of 300 police personnel were involved in the operation to flush out the suspected terrorists from their hideouts at the foot of Mount Seulawah.
