SECURITY TIGHTENED IN SUMENEP FOR MEGAWATI's ARRIVAL
Sumenep, Madura, March 6 (ANTARA) - At least 150 policemen were mobilized in Sumenep, Madura, on Saturday to ensure security for the arrival of Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) chairperson Mengawati Soekarnoputri.
Megawati was scheduled to arrive in Sumenep on Saturday afternoon to open PDIP's 3rd Regional Conference in East Java at the Zanzibar Hall in Batuan subdistrict, Sumenep.
"We are going to make an all-out effort to ensure security for the arrival of former President Megawati in Sumenep. Therefore, we have mobilized around 150 policemen to tighten security for Megawati," Sumenep police spokesman Commissioner Ary Wahjudhi said here on Saturday.
He said Megawati was scheduled to arrive in Surabaya at 11 a.m., and go on to Sumenep by car and arrive in the afternoon.
"The PDIP chairperson will arrive in Sumenep on Saturday afternoon to open the party's regional conference," Ary Wahjudhi said, adding that he had also instructed the police chiefs whose areas would be passed by Mengawati's motorcade to maintain security by monitoring traffic flows.
Areas in Sumenep which Megawati's motorcade would pass are the sub-districts of Pragaan, Bluto, Saronggi, and Batuan.
"Therefore, we ask sector police members to monitor the traffic and make Megawati's way to Sumenep smooth," he said.
