HUNDREDS OF E JAVA ULEMAS OPPOSE OBAMA`S VISIT TO INDONESIA
Surabaya, E. Java, Indonesia, March 7 (ANTARA) - Some 750 ulemas of the religious organization Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) in East Java opposed US President Barrack Obama's visit to Indonesia on March 20-22, 2010.
The rejection is carried in an agreement signed by hundreds of ulemas in East Java on Sunday.
"We reject Obama's plan to come to Indonesia since he is the head of a country which has been fighting Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and Pakistan," local HTI chairman, Muhammad Abu Syifa, said here on Sunday.
Abu Syifa said the US is colonizer country. Accepting Obama in Indonesia would give the US a chance to put its claws in the country, he added.
"We respect other ulema's positive views on Obama's forthcoming visit saying that visit to Indonesia will strengthen the relations between east and west. However, we disagree with the idea," he said.
Abu Syifa said his group would conduct protest rallies against Obama's visit in front of US representative office in Surabaya on March 14.
"The rally will be joined by 5,000 HTI activists from Surabaya and environs. We will also send several activists to Jakarta to stage a similar protest rally," he said.
According to a statement issued by the East Java HTI, Obama did not have the intention to change his predecessor's policy on Iraq. Obama, the document said, will have the US army pulled out from Iraq or reduce US troops in Afghanistan. In fact, it stated, Obama wants to sendd 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.
The document also said that up till now, Obama never expressed his sympathy to the Palestinians in the Gaza strip who were attacked by Israele troops last year. The US president, it said, did not even mention the tragedy during his inauguration to the presidency.***
