RUPIAH STRENGTHENS TO RP9,250 PER US DOLLAR

Jakarta, March 8 (ANTARA) - The rupiah strengthened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Monday morning.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,230-Rp9,240 per US dollar, up 30 points from Rp9,260-Rp9,270 at the market's close over the weekend.

Investors purchased the local unit following the House of Representatives' decision to refer the Century case to a judicial process to find out who was wrong or right, according to Edwin Sinaga, a domestic money market observer.

The rupiah was expected to move upward to the level of Rp9,200 per US dollar, Sinaga, president director of PT Finan Corpindo Nusa, said.

Indonesia is still considered a potential market for foreign investors wanting to get bigger profit than in other Asian countries, according Sinaga.
