POLICE ADVISED NOT TO ACT ALONE IN FIGHTING TERRORISTS

Jakarta, March 8 (ANTARA) - The National Police should not act alone in the eradication of terrorism in the country, House Commission-I member from the Golkar faction Fayakhun Andriadi said here on Monday.

"It is better for the police to ask for National Defense Forces (TNI) assistance because they have more experiences in military actions in whatever situation, including in Aceh," Fayakhun said.

He made the remark to comment on the National Police (Polri) statement about the death of five Special Detachment (Densus 88) members and Aceh Mobile Brigade in counter-terrorist operations in the Aceh jungle recently.

Fayakhun said the death of five Densus 88 and Mobile Brigade members proved that the police lacked experience in jungle warfare
"In many countries, the military is the preferred force to fight terrorists, and therefore Polri needs to cooperate with TNI in the eradication of terrorism," he said.

He said the death of five policemen during raids on terrorist hideouts in Aceh was deplorable because they still lacked experience in jungle combat.

"Therefore, from the House Commission-I we urge the National Police to ask for assistance from the military as soon as possible because they have a lot of experience in conducting operations in jungles," Fayakhun said.

He also expressed hope that in the future there would be no excuse to explain the security personnel inability and failure in the eradication of terrorism.***
