PDIP POLITICIAN ON TRIAL IN BRIBERY CASE
Jakarta, March 8 (ANTARA) - A politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was arraigned in the anti-corruption court here on Monday.
Dudhie Makmun Murod was accused of receiving bribe money during his service as the member of the House of Representatives in 2004.
"The bribe money was related to the election of Miranda S Goeltom as Bank Indonesia (BI)senior deputy governor in 2004," the prosection said in its charge sheet.
According to the prosecution, the PDIP faction in the house in 2004 had agreed to support Miranda as the new BI senior deputy governor.
To achieve the goal, prosecution said, a member of PDIP faction, Panda Nababan, was appointed as coordinator of the faction's efforts to get Miranda elected.
Soon after Miranda got the position, Panda ordered Dudhie to meet someone named Ahmad Hakim Safari in a restaurant in Jakarta.
During the meeting, Dudhie received several checks to be distributed to the other members of the PDIP faction in the house. Each of them got Rp500 million while Panda as the coordinator got a bigger portion, namely Rp1.4 billion.
For his role in the bribery, Dudhie was indicted based on several claused in the anti-corruption law.
Besides Dudhie, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had also arrested former member of Commission IX from the United Development Party (PPP) Endin AJ Soefihara and former member of the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) Udju Djuhaeri.
The KPK had also detained former House members Hamka Yandhu from the Golkar Party as a suspect in the case. Yandhu was also involved in the Indonesian Banking Development Foundation (YPPI) funds misappropriation case.
The bribery case for which Dudhie Makmun Murod is now being tried initially caught public attention after a former legislator from the PDIP, Agus Condro, confessed that he had received a check worth Rp500 million after the election of Miranda Goeltom as BI senior deputy governor.
According to Agus, other members of the house had also received checks in the same amount.***
