VP CONTINUES TO MONITOR SECURITY SITUATION
Jakarta, March 9 (ANTARA) - Vice President Boediono continues to monitor the national security situation during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's absence to make an overseas trip to Australia and Papua New Guinea.
"Following President Yudhoyono's overseas trip, Vice President Boediono continues to monitor the national security situation," vice presidential spokesman Yopie Hidayat told newsmen at the vice presidential Palace here on Tuesday.
Yopie Hidayat made the remark when he was asked about the latest situation in Aceh and Pamulang, especially in relation with the visit to Indonesia by the United States President Barack Obama later this month.
He said the national security situation was the primary concern of the vice president who continued to make coordination with related institutions.
According to Hidayat, the vice president did not want to suppose that the case happening in Aceh and Pamulang involved acts of terrorism.
"It's better for us not to wait for an official report from the authorities rather than to assume that it involves acts of terrorism," Yopie Hidayat quoted the vice president as saying.
Asked if the National Police (Polri) chief had reported to the vice president about what happened in Pamulang, Hidayat said he was not sure about it.
"I am not sure whether the National Police chief has reported the Pamulang case to the vice president or not," Yopie Hidayat said.
But he added the security condition were the primary concern of Vice President Boediono, especially in relation with President Yudhoyono's overseas trip and US President Barack Obama's visit to Indonesia later this month.
