ULEMAS FROM NINE COUNTRIES MEET IN ACEH

Banda Aceh, Aceh, March 9 (ANTARA) - Noted ulemas from nine countries began a two-day meeting in Aceh Barat district's capital of Meulaboh on Tuesday.

The Aceh Barat district government's spokesman, Mursalin, said the participating ulemas came from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Cambodia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

"The meeting held at the Baitul Makmur Grand Mosque here is participated in by around 400 ulemas," he said.

The Indonesian delegation consisted of ulemas from 23 districts and towns in Aceh and such provinces as East Java, Central Java, and North Sumatra, he said.

The meeting was expected to produce a recommendation for the Islamic law enforcements in the entire areas of Aceh, including Aceh Barat district, Mursalin said.

Aceh province has been practicing Islamic law over the past few years.
