Russian, Finnish scholars gather to discuss WWII history.

HELSINKI, March 10 (Itar-Tass) - Russian and Finnish scholars and
writers will gather in the Finnish capital on Wednesday to discuss new
findings on the WWII history and problems of politicising modern
historical science.

Russia's "Historical Memory" foundation founded in 2008 will present
an English-language version of a collection of works titled "Exterminate
As Many of Them As Possible:", in which authors study the activities of
Latvian collaborationist units in Belarus in 1941-1944.
"The book contains plenty of evidence about crimes committed by
Latvian collaborationists in Belarus," Olga Dranitsyna, the foundation's
press secretary, told Itar-Tass.
"The collection contains documents from the National Archives of the
Republic of Belarus, the Central Archives of the Russian Federal Security
Service and the Central Archives of the Russian Defence Ministry," she
emphasized.
The Finnish side will present a book by journalist Elena Hetinen
titled "The Diary of an Anti-Fascist" on the rise of neo-Nazism in the
Baltic States.
Alexander Dyukov, the foundation's director, will read a lecture at
the University of Helsinki. He will meet Finnish writers and historians to
brief them on projects carried out by the "Historical Memory" foundation
designed to contribute to scientific study of vital chapters in the
20th-century Russian and European history.

.King of Jordan to arrive in Moscow to discuss Middle East.

BEIRUT, March 10 (Itar-Tass) - King Abdullah II of Jordan will discuss
prospects for convening an international Middle East conference within the
framework of a working visit to Moscow on March 10-11, 2010. The Jordanian
Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said that Russia played a vital role in
achieving durable and comprehensive peace in the region. He noted that the
King of Jordan sought to maintain permanent high-level dialogue with
Russia.
At the moment, the rulers in Amman deem it necessary to give
additional impetus to international efforts with an aim to reach the
settlement of the Palestinian problem on the basis of co-existence of the
two states.
The forthcoming talks will focus on bilateral relations, including
cooperation in trade and economic spheres as well as
military-technological cooperation.
Jordanian business circles are interested in expanding mutually
beneficial cooperation with Russia. The secretary general of the Jordanian
Chamber of Commerce said. He added that the Jordanian-Russian relations
had good potential and legal basis for further development.

.Economic cooperation to dominate Polish-Azeri talks.

BAKU, March 10 (Itar-Tass) - Expansion of bilateral economic
cooperation, including in the energy sphere, will dominate talks between
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Azeri leaders on Wednesday. Prime
Minister Tusk arrived in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, late on Tuesday
as part of a four-day official visit to the countries of Southern Caucasus.
Under the program, the Polish prime minister is to meet his Azeri
counterpart Arthur Rasi-zade and parliamentary Speaker Oktay Asadov.
Azerbaijan's President Ilkham Aliev is expected to receive Donald Tusk.
According to diplomatic sources, a wide range of bilateral ties will be
discussed. Special attention may be paid to oil and gas deliveries from
Azerbaijan to Europe. Warsaw has a vested interest in implementing the
Odessa-Brody-Plotsk-Gdansk project under which the Azeri oil may be pumped
to Eastern Europe via the territories of Georgia and Ukraine and processed
at Polish oil refineries.
Baku has voiced political support for this project but the question is
still open because of the project's economic efficiency.
Regional cooperation between Azerbaijan and Poland will be another
topic for discussion. Poland is an important partner of GUAM, a regional
organization uniting Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova. Azerbaijan
counts on Poland's support in question of integration into Euro-Atlantic
structures, including into the European Union within the framework of the
Eastern Partnership program.
Donald Tusk will leave Baku for Tbilisi on March 11.
