EMPLOYMENT IN STATISTICAL FIGURE
Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Mongolia conducted a “Labor Force Survey (LFS)” on quarterly basis in accordance with the international common methodologies for the first time in 2002-2003 and it became a nationwide employment baseline survey that focused on seasonally adjustment in the labor market.
Then according to amendments of the Law on Statistics of Mongolia in 2004, NSO conducts LFS on quarterly basis since 2006 and disseminates its results regularly. NSO conducted LFS of 4th quarter of 2009 according to the “Methodology on measuring employment and labor force statistics” approved by 01/68/94 joint order of the Chairman of NSO and Minister of Social Welfare and Labor in 2009.
The 3204 households were sampled for LFS of 4th quarter, 2009 and its response rate was 100 per cent. By the survey results, total number of economically active population aged 15 and above estimated at 1120.3 thousands which consists of 596.1 thousand persons or 53.2 per cent were males and 524.2 thousands or 46.8 per cent were females. Of total economically active persons, 977.4 thousands were employees and 142.9 thousands are unemployed ones. In 4th quarter, 2009, unemployment rate was 12.8 per cent on the national level, and 16.5 per cent in urban and 7.9 percent in rural respectively.
As of the end of February 2010, the number of registered unemployed in labor and welfare divisions in aimags and the capital reached at 36.0 thous, which is an increase by 3728 persons or 11.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
About 19.5 thousand females registered themselves as unemployed, which shares 54.3 percent of total registered unemployed. As of the first 2 months of 2010, 3.0 thousand registered unemployed persons found jobs, 18.1 percent out of them found jobs in government or state-owned enterprises and remaining 81.9 percent in companies, cooperatives or other types of employers, such as small-scale private businesses.
The 2802 households sampled in the HSES for 4th quarter, 2009 from 21 aimags and Ulaanbaatar city. The household monthly average monetary income reached at 349.1 thous.togrogs and it shows an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the same period of previous year. As of the 4th quarter of 2009, the household monthly average monetary expenditure was 368.3 thous.togrogs and it has increased by 0.9 percent compared to the same period of previous year.
