LANDSLIDES HIT DOZENS OF HOUSES IN PACITAN



Trenggalek, Mar 10 (ANTARA) - Dozens of houses in Nawangan and Bandar subdistricts, Pacitan regency, East Jawa, were swept by a landslike on Wednesday.

The victims chose to move to safer places for fear of after-disasters following heavy reains in the area.
"The land is still unstable," one of the victims said.
He said heavy rains since Tuesday afternoon had eroded the slopes of the hills near the homes of villagers in Tempel hamlet, Jetis Lor village.
A thundering sound came from the slopes in the first landslide at 7 pm local time.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, but flash floods hit the people living at the banks of Grindulu river.

Several houses were even to have been leveled to the ground the landslide.

Other information said that besides Jetis Lor, landslides also hit four houses in Tokawi hampet.

A more serious condition appeared in Bandar subdistrict, where nine houses were buried in thick mud.
