JUDICIAL COMMISSION EXAMINING CORRECTNESS OF ANTASARI'S JAIL SENTENCE

Semarang, Mar 10 (ANTARA) - The Judicial Commission (KY) may summon the court jury that sentenced former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Antasari Azhar to 18 years in jail for murder, if they prove to have made mistakes in arriving at the verdict.

The YK was now examining the way in which the South Jakarta District Court jury decided to pass the sentence on Antasari at the latter's request submitted through his lawyers, KY Chairman Busyro Muqoddas said here Wednesday.

"We are now still collecting more evidence and data related to Antasari's case," Busyro said after attending a seminar themed "Bribery, Judicial Mafia , Law Enforcement and Criminal Law Renewal."
He said KY did not want to be hasty in arriving at the conclusion that the jury in Antasari's trials had ignored or overlooked relevant legal facts.

Busyro declined to disclose to what extent the KY's examination had so far progressed, saying people had better wait until the commission had completed its examination.

"Just wait until we have studied all the dossiers and the evidence we have received from Antasari's lawyers' team," he said. The team consisted of lawyers Mohammad Assegaf, Juniver Girsang, Maqdir Ismail and Ari Yusuf Amir.

He said, if in its examination the commision had found indications of violations of the judiciary code of ethics or other mistakes by the South Jakarta District jury, the latter could be summoned for questioning and sanctioning.
